TEXTUAL CORRECTION OF NARASIMHA PURANA WITH OTHER PURANAS AND SANSKRIT TEXTS

The Narasimha Purana as available in print at present consists of 68 chapters, but the presence of the anecdote of the Narasimha-Caturadasi-vrata in Hemadri’s Caturvargacintamani (1270 A. D.) and Ayodhya-tirtha-prasansa as found out in four manuscripts by Dr. Umakanta Chaturvedi suggest that there were undoubtedly in existence a somewhat larger text of the Narasimha Purana than the printed text available at present. This monograph “Textual Correlation of the Narasimha Purana with other Puranas and Sanskrit Texts”, show the textual borrowing of the Narasimha Purana from divergent sources, and it is presented to the scholarly world with the hope that it would be of much assistance in the critical edition and reconstruction of the Narasimha Purana in future.
